Introduction to the Book of Hebrews

The Book of Hebrews was written to address the doubts of those who were second-guessing their conversion to Christianity.

The author sets out to show that Christianity is the true successor to Judaism. At first Christianity was Jewish. Jesus was a Jew, His disciples were Jews, and the first converts were Jews. Critics of that time knew it as a Jewish sect.

No one knows for sure who wrote Hebrews, however the audience is most likely Jewish Christians because of the abundance of references to the Torah. The book is centred on three main things:

  1. Divine mediation

  2. Divine redemption

  3. Divine promises

According to the author of Hebrews, all this points to the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ. Jesus is better than the angels, Moses, the Aaronic Priesthood, and the Law, for He mediates a better covenant.
