What’s the Plan?
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful…” Proverbs 29:18 (NLT)
Before entering a relationship, one of the most important questions you can ask yourself is: What is God’s plan for my life?
Vision is more than just dreams or goals. Biblical vision is divine direction, an understanding of God’s purpose and guidance for your life. As Christians, we are not called to simply follow our feelings, culture, or what everyone else is doing. We are called to follow God.
The truth is, God created you with purpose. Your life is not random. Before you were born, God already had a plan for your future. He knows the calling on your life, the places you will go, the people you will impact, and even the relationships that will shape your journey.
That is why relationships should never be entered casually.
Before pursuing someone, ask yourself:
Am I emotionally and spiritually ready for a relationship?
Is this God’s timing, or am I rushing because I feel lonely?
Am I seeking purpose, or just attention?
Am I being led by my emotions, or by the Holy Spirit?
If God’s design for relationships is ultimately marriage, am I willing to approach relationships seriously and intentionally?
Sometimes we want a relationship simply because everyone around us seems to be in one. Sometimes we chase temporary excitement, emotional comfort, or validation. But feelings alone are not wise leaders. Emotions change quickly. God’s wisdom does not.
A relationship pursued outside of God’s timing can become a distraction from His purpose. But a relationship surrendered to God can become part of His beautiful plan for your life.
Before looking for “the one,” spend time becoming who God has called you to be. Build your relationship with Him first. Learn His voice. Discover your purpose. Let Him guide your desires, your decisions, and your timing.
When God leads, there is peace, wisdom, and clarity.
Reflection Questions
What is currently influencing my desire for a relationship?
Have I truly invited God into this area of my life?
Am I pursuing purpose before pursuing romance?
Guided Prayer
Lord, help me to be led by You in every relationship decision I make. Let me not be driven by emotions, pressure, loneliness, or temporary feelings, but by Your wisdom and Your timing. Teach me to seek Your purpose for my life first and to trust that Your plan for me is good. Prepare my heart for the relationships You desire for me, and help me to walk in wisdom, purity, and patience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
