Devotional 📖
What helped Apostle Paul to endure the countless hardships he endured was that he always had his mind fixed on eternity. He never not once forgot that all the things he did on earth had eternal consequences. He consistently pressed on because he understood that there was something to press towards, looking not at the things that are seen but on the things that are unseen.
If we desire to endure to the end, we cannot allow our gaze to be fixed on the seen. If we do, we’ll be discouraged.
Paul’s eyes were fixed on Jesus, His suffering and His glory, and it stopped him from being discouraged. All the pain we experience works for us a weightier glory. Though our outward appearance may look unprofitable, there is an inward renewal and eternal reward that we are pressing for. Fixing our eyes on temporary things will make us miss the things of eternal significance.
Life happens in seasons. Both bad and happy circumstances endure for a time, but there is an eternal joy and satisfaction in Jesus and Him alone. When everything around you is changing and you feel overwhelmed, just look up. All humanity will at some point experience light afflictions and, for those who believe, it’s working in us an eternal weight of glory.
I encourage you to reflect on the things that occupy most of your attention and most of your time. Is it the temporary seen or the eternal unseen? What are we fixing our eyes and spending most of our time on?
Prayer 🙏
Jesus, help me to remember that life exists in seasons. Help me to fix my eyes on you and on eternal things. Let me not get caught up in the temporary seen. Give me a tunnel vision lens of where I’m going and who I’m becoming.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
